Lola's On Harrison

Lola's is located in the heart of downtown Hollywood, along Harrison street. Chef Michael Wagner, owner of Lola's, creates sophisticated comfort food with a neighborhood feel. He cooks bold contemporary American cuisine. The dishes are seasonal and are created with organic and grass fed meats. Kevin and I went there last week and enjoyed a three course meal off the Miami Spice menu.
They have a portion of dishes, mainly on the appetizer menu, that can be done in half and full portions. If you are one who loves to share and try a little bit of everything, ordering a bunch of half items from the menu can be fun too!
I started off with the purple potato skins with sun dried tomato creme fraiche, roasted garlic cloves, smoked bacon bits, chives, and American sturgeon caviar.
Kevin started  with the braised beef cheeks. They were dusted in porcini mushrooms and made over a creamy polenta with forest mushroom rosemary broth and a horseradish gremolata. IT WAS DIVINE!
Next, for our main course, we both ordered the skillet seared salmon. It was made over an organic wheatberry salad with roasted pistachio nuts, black currants, a cucumber-mint vinaigrette, and topped with fried shallots. This course was absolutely delicious. Usually, when it comes to salmon, I fear that it will be too fishy and overpowering. But this salmon was a hit!
Dessert was not too impressive. We ordered a mango sorbet and raspberry cheesecake. The whole time I was eating the cheesecake, I kept tasting bacon grease, as if that's what they baked it in. WEIRD!

Overall, Lola's on Harrison gets my recommendation. If you are ever in the Hollywood area, Lola's is the place to go. With the friendly service and unique, gourmet, comfort-style cuisine, you won't be let down!
